Kuwait’s Petroleum Industries Company (PIC) will shut its urea and ammonia plants at Shuaiba for a month starting in late May because it does not have enough gas.
The company will stop production at the plants from about 23 May, according to a source close to the company.
The source could not say why the state would be cutting off the gas supply.
Kuwait has a history of power cuts during the summer months as demand for air conditioning hits a peak.
A stand-off between the country’s legislative and executive bodies has meant that the state has invested little in new gas supplies in the west of the country in recent years.
