IT and Telecoms Jobs in the Middle East
Both the IT and the Telecoms sectors in the Gulf region have remained largely buoyant despite the global economic downturn.

The UAE leads the way with the highest rates of mobile penetration in the region, estimated at a colossal 200%, according to figures released by the UAEs Telecommunication Regulatory Authority' in January 2010. This equates to over 10 Million mobile subscribers in a estimated population of 4,798,491 (source: CIA factbook).

Ambitious expansions by all the major telecoms players in the GCC region and the granting of telecoms operator licences and introduction of regulatory framework by the GCC governments have opened new markets, created fair and vibrant competition and encouraged more attractive pricing, and innovation and development of the telecommunication sector.

Recently, both du and Etisalat cut the price of their broadband to stimulate demand and reduce market share of dialup. The planned rollouts of fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network and WiMAX wireless services will further reduce dialup penetration.

Government initiatives in areas such as Healthcare and education are driving the growth of the Information technology sector - multimillion Dollar budgets to supply computers to state school and complete electronic integration of the start run hospitals being examples of such initiatives.

Further, spending on IT products and services is projected to reach USD3Billion in 2010, with over $0.5 Billion being spent on software in the UAE alone. The predictions are that by 2014 the software market will be worth $1.4 Billion - almost tripling in 3 years.
