Senior Drilling Engineer- Operator-Oman

A leading Operator is looking for a Senior Drilling Engineer for a residential role in Oman. Drilling Engineer will be responsible to develops specific well plans in conjunction with the Reservoir Management Team (RMT) or Exploration Team. Key responsibilites include:
  • Develops well designs and Projects costs Project Authorization Requests for assigned wells.
  • Identifies and evaluates appropriate offset wells.
  • Leads internal well design reviews and risk assessments for assigned wells.
  • Monitors well costs on a daily basis. Prepares and updates depth versus days and depth versus cost curves.
  • Ensures final costs in Open Wells are accurate and prepares Project supplements if required.
  • Writes drilling procedures for assigned wells. Documents all well design changes using Management of Change process.
  • Attends rig calls. Provides technical support on daily drilling operations and is the primary contact for field engineering issues.
  • Provides full time engineering support to assigned drilling rig(s).
  • Monitors daily morning report, and facilitates data error corrections and coding. Primary responsibility for Open Wells files, well file population and management for assigned wells.
  • Knows and follows the Global Drilling Community Standards and Standard Operating Programs.
  • Prepares internal and external benchmarking and end of well reports. Coordinates and communicates end of well reviews. Leads the joint review with the Reservoir Management Team or Exploration Team.
  • Evaluates activities against pre-established goals and makes recommendations based on evaluations.
  • Full understanding of, and active participation in, Health Environment and Safety Management System Program. Accountable for knowledge of and compliance with all applicable regulations and Company HES training requirements and policies.
  • Manages contracts and contractors to continuous improvement via the Contract and Contractor Management Standard.
  • Serve as Proponent for assigned contracts, including tender preparation, analysis, award and contract administration as per SCM RACI (Responsible, Accountable, Consult, Inform) chart.
  • Reviews and approves invoices for accuracy.
  • Delegate for Drilling Engineering Supervisor as required.
Ideal Candidate profile:
  • Bachelors Degree in an Engineering discipline
  • Minimum 10 years experience working as a Drilling Engineer.
  • Experience generating/executing drilling programs, including detailed cost estimates, detailed drilling procedures, drilling fluid programs, cementing programs, directional drilling plans, casing design, optimized bit and (BHA) Bottom Hole Assembly design, and hydraulics calculations.
  • Experience in the use of the Landmark suite of software – OpenWells, StressCheck, WellPlan, and Compass.
  • Understanding of drilling equipment, including top drives, iron roughneck, pipe handlers, mud pumps, degassers, choke manifolds, BOPs, BOP control units, and other equipment.
  • Ability to mentor less experienced engineers and non-technical staff.
  • Experience in managing drilling service contractors and their performance, including writing detailed technical specifications.
  • Ability to work well with others, including drilling peers and cross functional team members, some of whom may be multi-national employees.
  • Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office software.
